Local
(single county) Criminal Records
(Florida Availability)
This search is conducted at the
county level and can be performed in any one Florida
county.
There is no crossover or sharing of
information between counties. This means that an
arrest that occurs in Orange County will not be found
in a check of Seminole County criminal records.
If the individual county is not
specified, the address provided will determine which
county system is searched.
Although Florida has a central
repository that collects and disseminates criminal
information from all 67 counties, statewide arrest
records will not disclose all arrests pertaining to a
given individual.
This is because the State relies on
each reporting agency for the information in its
system. If a given county fails to report or does not
report promptly, the return will show "No Record
Found."
There have been
numerous occasions where statewide criminal records
have shown "No Record Found" and the county
level search reveals arrest information, sometimes
multiple arrests.
Here's something else
you should know.
While it might seem that a
statewide criminal record check would reveal all
arrests that have occurred in Florida, even if every
arrest adjudicated at the county level was reported to
the State system, statewide records will still not
reflect all arrests made in Florida.
This is because the federal
criminal system is completely independent of any
county or state record system. Arrests made by federal
agencies will not be found in a search of Florida
statewide or county criminal records.
With the exception of
federal criminal records that require a separate
check, the most accurate and current criminal record
information, including the original file, will be
found at the county level.
